end April, early May 2000, South Bank, London held
every 3 years in London. 600 contestants initially, with 24 competing in London's
Purcell Room in four stages over a 2 week period. Semi-finalists perform
50 minute recitals (usually 3 pieces) for a place in the Grand Final. Lady
Solti was the MC at the Grand Final. Prince Charles gave the prizes.
Brahm's Piano Concert0 no. 1 was performed twice (by the Italian and the Finnish).
Prokofiev's 2nd was performed by a Macedonian pianist. Who won? the one
who did not expect it: the 20 year old blonde. mid April 2000 Olympia, London Organic and
natural products include food, wine, medicine, clothing, cosmetics, oils, teas
and drinks, and pet food. It was an eye-opener to see so many exhibitors
from all over the world keen to educate and spread the word. 23 - 25 May 2000 Earl's Court, London held every
year in different locations around the world. This year's was huge.
Three days were insufficient to visit all the stands and attend the 130 free seminars.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) was the buzz word. Intel Online gave
a live 3-actor multimedia 5-minute show about their new data centre. Whoever
watched it also got a free calculator afterwards. I was most impressed by
Jack Ma's killer notes speech. Using
the internet should be simple to use - but most people overdo it. Perhaps that
was one reason for the downfall of Boo.com. Unfortunately, this show coincided
with Online Information for the
City. 28 May - 4 June 2000 London Royal Horticultural Halls 28 - 30 July 2000 London Royal Horticultural

14 September 2000 Queen Elizabeth II Convention Centre, London High-tech,
instant audience polling and results. The moderator was from Business Week - but
previously talk-host of a radio programme in the US - National Public Radio. It
was like being on TV - he spoke like someone famous. Nick Negroponte was the opening
guest speaker. Since I had read his book Being
Digital Digital, I wanted to hear him speak. |
