PUTTING WORDS TO MUSICBarely after composing Autumn Shivers, I felt a new tune stirring in my veins. It was morning, Friday the 13th. I heard a simple tune in A minor and G major chords and a bass line that carried it into the first verse. In July, I got an email from someone I didn't know. It said to call Patsy - Patty's mom. She had found my web tribute to her daughter. I called her from Houston. Who was the messenger? She was the poet Pamela Grant. She asked if I could set her poems to music. It has been more than a year since I last put words to music. It has been almost two years since I last wrote verse. The words and my melody flowed well. It was a sad and ominous piece. I wanted simplicity to relate the powerful words. Who had the ".... murderous heart...." ? |
