AIRPORT FAREWELLAirports are beginnings and endings. Taking my friend to the airport today was an ending. I didn't want to park. I just wanted to drive off. Airports, my second home. Such familiarity and contempt! Once I slept at Seattle airport during a snow storm. All the local hotels were full, and my friends could not pick me up. Airports were never the same to me, after that. I didn't know what to say. We must say goodbye, I said. This has to be the end. He didn't understand why I was crying. I remember a rendezvous a few years ago. I was flying away. My friend cried as we said goodbye. Now I know. He wanted it to end. I saw it as a beginning. |
