Bon JournalDelayed flightThere is no time to enjoy a proper breakfast, I decided, with only 15 minutes to get to the train station. I don't want to rush and become out of breath, I thought. Murphy's Law works in strange ways. When you give yourself enough time to get there, you learn that the flight is already delayed. You end up with more time than you need. You regret arriving early. When you are late, you are very late. Running to the gate and contributing to an early heart attack, that seems to be the story of my life. And when there is time to kill, there is nothing interesting to kill it with. I read the Financial Times from cover to cover, even pausing to check out the stock prices. I read the Daily Mail from cover to cover. I even managed to have a sandwich in between. The plane finally arrived two hours late. While I was waiting, I felt the regret of not being able to enjoy a proper breakfast. Could I have known earlier? 4 December 2003 Thursday |
