Bon JournalSingle career womenIn a room full of couples and middle aged retirees, all eyes turned to the two women who arrived late. They appeared self-confident in their respectable suits, and upon closer look, one would guess them to be in their late thirties or early forties. Single career women exhude an air of confidence if they have followed successful and enjoyable career paths. They are well-read and can join a conversation mid-way. They can lead a conversation and make people laugh. My conversation with these single career women was far more charged with energy than with the others in the room. I found their professional work fascinating. I could relate to their personal relationships. And I admired their independence. Why am I putting them on a pedestal now? Am I not a single career woman, too? Would men be attracted to such single women who are no longer nubile and innocent? What kind of men would desire self-opinionated, financially independent, self-sufficient women who seem to enjoy being single? The answer? Financially independent, self-sufficient and self-opinionated single career men who also enjoy being single. 29 November 2003 Saturday |
