FAMILIAR FACESEven from a distance, I recognised his face. I called out, "Peter," then retracted. Maybe that wasn't his name. I remember the day he joined the company. He was a fast track star. When I learned that he was my age, I was absolutely shocked. He looked so much older, burned out and stressed out. He recognised me, but I could tell he had forgotten my name as I had his. I asked if he was still working there. Yes, he replied. I asked if so and so was still working there. What else was there to talk about? He was a company man after all, bound by company rules. It bothered me that I couldn't remember his name. I suppose over time one forgets names more easily than faces. Soon I will see more faces without names and vice versa. |
