WAITING FOR THE SHUTTLE

The Amtrak stop at BWI was served by a free shuttle to BWI Airport. I had been told that there was a free hotel shuttle I could catch from the airport. So I sat and waited. Soon another woman joined me in the waiting. We were the blind leading the blind, but eventually struck up a conversation. She was joining her husband who had a meeting here. She had flown all the way from Hawaii.

Why would anyone want to leave Hawaii? Why would anyone want to fly across the US to visit Baltimore? She told me that it was a free flight - so she was following her husband to Boston as well.

People with time on their hands. They can stand the waiting.

I couldn't wait. I asked her to wait and I ran inside to call the hotel. The free hotel shuttle was free only if you called. Otherwise it would not arrive as there was only one van. I then called her hotel to find out if it was also as infrequent as mine. Just as I was about to hang up, I saw my shuttle coming towards me. I rushed out the door and flagged it down. Then I called out to the lady from Hawaii: "Yours is on its way."

I had jotted down my thoughts of the day during my travels. Now that I've FINALLY unpacked and cleaned up my room, I found these notes. So I will now "back-fill" my on-line diary.
