Bon JournalPiano moviesThe book "Piano playing for Dummies" lists movies about pianos or pianists. I've seen nearly half of them. Some older ones are only available as videos now. 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould - for anyone keen on Bach. Amadeus - all about Mozart and his music. I got introduced to Mozart's Requiem. The Competition - this inspired me to play piano until 2 in the morning. And then I got to attend the London International Piano Competition and see what it was like for the young pianists. The Fabulous Baker Boys - I couldn't really relate to this, other than wanting to lie on the grand piano like Michelle Pfeiffer. Immortal Beloved - Beethoven's piano concerto number 5 took on a new meaning after I saw this movie, unrequited love. The Piano - I couldn't get enough of this. I saw the movie then the video. I bought the score and the book afterwards. And then I started playing one of the pieces at hotels I stayed at. Eventually, I felt as if I was the pianist in the movie. Shine - This really made me cry. I later visited the Royal College of Music where part of it was filmed. The Importance of Being Earnest - not about pianos or pianists, but I did see Rupert Everett play the piano here. Music from the Heart - This is not about piano or pianists but about music and violinists. Very touching story with Meryl Streep as the inner city violin teacher. It goes to show that music will discipline children. The Red Violin - Again, not about pianos at all, but the interesting and surprising story of a violin that is red. Movies I haven't seen yet:Casablanca Five Easy Pieces Impromptu - about Chopin. I've been asking for this at every video store I've visited without any success at all. Madame Sousatzka Song Without End Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser The Piano Teacher 21 September 2002 Saturday | Actors who are also pianists:Cint EastwoodJeff GoldblumJack LemmonDudley MooreHolly HunteranalyticalQ links:Movie reviewsFree sheet music | ||
